Barbie Makes History at The Box Office

This weekend, Barbie stomped her little high heels all over the competition by taking over the box office and making history. The Greta Gerwig-directed film opened in theaters Friday, July 21, and accomplished to have the biggest domestic opening of 2023 so far with an astounding $162 million domestic and a worldwide total of $362 million! Barbie stars several A-list actors including, Margot Robbie as Barbie, Ryan Gosling as Ken, Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, and Simu Liu.

Aside from having the biggest opening of 2023, Barbie became the biggest opening for a female director ever, the biggest opening for a movie based on a toy, the biggest opening ever for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, and the biggest opening weekend for a movie that isn’t a sequel, remake, or superhero movie. I hope that with these numbers, Hollywood is more receptive to original stories and give a bigger budget to more female directors. You can check out my full review of Barbie below.
